PM Roosevelt Skerrit attends CARICOM Head of Government Meeting

Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica attended the CARICOM (Caribbean Community) head of Government in Grenada. Grenada hosted this Forty-Seventh regular meeting this year for three days from July 28 to 30.

PM Skerrit left for Grenada on Sunday. He also shared information about this visit on his official Facebook page. While taking to his official Facebook page, PM stated  “I am in Grenada to attend the Forty Sevanth meeting of CARICOM heads of Government.”

 

He further added, “ At the meeting  we will discuss important issues  such as climate change, food security, agriculture, technology, and the issue of Haiti.”  PM Skerrit at meeting  highlighted the need to strengthen the mechanism for the free movement of people and agriculture integration. This will ensure the easy export and sale of Dominican crops across the Region.

The other key issue on the agenda during the meeting was the provision of the CARICOM single market. The head of government further analyzed the CARICOM agri-foof system agenda, regional digital resilience, and regional transportation. Similarly the measures for sustainable development and climate change were discussed in details. These climate changes have a huge impact on the countries of the Caribbean region.

 

Later  the PM  visited  US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) in Miami. He was accompanied by Dominica’s Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore, and Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie during a visit to the SOUTHCOM.  It is worth noting that SOUTHCOM is responsible for contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean region.

During his visit to SOUTHCOM, PM Skerrit held an important meeting with US Army General Laura Richardson, the  commander of SOUTHCOM. He also met with many other top Southern Command officials and discussed security cooperation issues, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief collaboration  and SOUTHCOM efforts in the region.

 

In the absence of PM Skerrit, Irving McIntyre  the Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security  is working as the Prime Minister. Social media users also extended best wishes to the PM for a successful visit to Grenada and SOUTHCOM.
