New Recycling Units to Boost Plastic Bottle Recycling in Al Ain and Al Dhafra

This initiative is part of a broader effort, launched in 2022 by Abu Dhabi Mobility, formerly known as the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), in collaboration with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi and Cycled Technologies

Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on Wednesday the installation of two new recycling units in Al Ain and Al Dhafra, furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability.

These units, which will be located at the main bus stations in each city, are designed to facilitate the recycling of empty plastic bottles and incentivize residents to participate in the initiative.

Residents who deposit plastic bottles into these newly installed devices will be able to earn points through the Cycled Rewards app.

Each 600ml bottle deposited earns one point, while larger bottles earn two points. The system is intended to make recycling more rewarding and accessible for the community.

The points accumulated through recycling are not just symbolic; they hold tangible value. For every 10 points earned, one dirham will be added to the Hafilat card, which is used to pay for public transport fares in Abu Dhabi.

This integration of recycling incentives with public transport payment aims to create a seamless and practical reward system for residents.

This initiative is part of a broader effort, launched in 2022 by Abu Dhabi Mobility, formerly known as the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), in collaboration with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Cycled Technologies.

Cycled Technologies specializes in smart recycling solutions and reverse vending machines (RVM) and has played a crucial role in deploying these innovative recycling stations across the UAE.

The program has been well-received since its introduction, with the goal of encouraging greater participation in recycling efforts and reducing plastic waste.

By placing these units at high-traffic bus stations, the initiative aims to make recycling as convenient as possible for residents, thereby increasing the overall recycling rates in the region.

The new units in Al Ain and Al Dhafra represent a significant step forward in Abu Dhabi’s environmental strategy.

They are expected to enhance community engagement with recycling efforts and support the emirate’s broader goals of sustainability and waste management.

Residents are encouraged to download the Cycled Rewards app to start earning points and contribute to a cleaner environment.

The initiative underscores Abu Dhabi’s ongoing commitment to innovative and practical solutions for environmental challenges and reflects the city’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices among its residents.
