Abu Dhabi’s High-Tech Emergency Bikes Revolutionize Rapid Response

While the motorcycle may not completely extinguish large fires, it serves as a critical first intervention tool, controlling the situation until reinforcements arrive and assisting with traffic management at accident sites

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has once again demonstrated its world-class emergency response capabilities with the introduction of the upgraded Sahm first responder motorcycle, designed to tackle fires in tight and hard-to-reach spaces.

Recently, the Sahm motorcycle showcased its efficiency by extinguishing a basement fire in under 30 seconds, a feat that underscores its crucial role in emergency situations.

Speaking at Intersec 2025, a leading international security and safety exhibition, Lieutenant Fire Officer Jamal Al Rafi highlighted the importance of the Sahm motorcycle.

“The primary mission of the Sahm motorcycle is to reach the incident site as swiftly as possible, especially in challenging environments like narrow spaces,” he stated.

The latest version of Sahm has undergone significant improvements, particularly in weight and maneuverability. Al Rafi explained that the flint size had been adjusted to enhance first responders’ efficiency.

While the motorcycle may not completely extinguish large fires, it serves as a critical first intervention tool, controlling the situation until reinforcements arrive and assisting with traffic management at accident sites.

The Sahm motorcycle is compact yet powerful, measuring 2.27 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and 1.45 meters in height, with a total weight of 300 kg.

It is equipped with essential firefighting tools, including a Compressed Air Foam Extinguisher (CAFS) system that carries two tanks with a combined 26-litre capacity.

It also features a compressed air cylinder operating at 300 bar and two 15-metre fire hoses, adding to the 42 kg of onboard equipment.

With its high-pressure discharge system, the extinguisher can operate for 52 seconds, covering a range of 19 metres—ideal for addressing emergency fires in confined spaces.

‘Nabd’ Ambulance Motorcycle Enhances Medical Response

Alongside Sahm, the Nabd first responder ambulance motorcycle was also showcased at Intersec 2025. This advanced medical response vehicle is designed to navigate Abu Dhabi’s bustling streets and respond rapidly to medical emergencies.

Advanced Paramedic Saud Mohammed Al Marzouqi emphasized that the current Nabd model, which was officially launched in July 2024, offers significant improvements over its predecessor.

“This version has been fine-tuned for practical deployment, particularly in congested areas like Salam Street. In non-critical cases, the motorcycle can provide immediate medical assistance, such as controlling bleeding or administering IV fluids,” he said.

The Nabd motorcycle is equipped with a cardiac defibrillator (AED), a trauma bag for various injuries, an airway bag with oxygen supplies, and an IV bag stocked with essential fluids and medications.

It also includes vital signs monitoring devices, ensuring patients receive accurate assessments before full ambulance support arrives.

Showcasing Innovation at Intersec 2025

Both Sahm and Nabd were key highlights at Intersec 2025, which runs from January 14 to January 16 and focuses on advancements in Commercial & Perimeter Security, Fire & Rescue, Safety & Health, Cyber Security, and Homeland Security & Policing.

The introduction of these cutting-edge motorcycles reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to enhancing emergency response capabilities and ensuring public safety.

With these innovations, first responders can navigate complex urban environments swiftly, reducing response times and saving lives more effectively than ever before.
