Dominica Cable Car project gains momentum as workforce grows to 290

Project Manager Randall Gliege recently shared this update with the media, when Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the construction site.

Dominica: The Cable Car project in Dominica is making a significant and rapid progress, and the major reason behind this is the increase in its workforce. According to the reports there were 200 workers deployed till June last year, however, now there are approximately 290 local workers involved in this project.

Project Manager Randall Gliege recently shared this update with the media, when Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the construction site. The project Manager further outlined the construction process, where he mentioned that the project is at its foundation stage. He mentioned that the foundation of the bottom station has been completed, while the Top station will go under construction now.

“The bottom station we have all the foundations complete. But now we are working on the building structure, and the top station. We are working mainly on the building structure at this point, so in terms of, the next phase that involves assembling these tower components you’re seeing here,” Gliege stated.

Cable Car Dominica will have 10 cabins

He further added that the assembling of the towers on the lower section will begin shortly next month, with experts and tower components arriving in February. He emphasized that each designed cabin would seat 10 people at once and there will be a total of 10 cabins.

“So, the final product will be a really nice cabin that you can walk in and stand upright when you walk in and then there is comfortable seating to sit and it will be a really nice experience for people,” he stated.

Cable Car’s construction will end by 2025: PM Skerrit

While inspecting the Construction site, PM Skerrit also talked to the members of media and provided updates of the project. He stated that the construction of the Cable Car is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, as it has neared approximately 60% of its completion.

Upon completion, it will be the longest ever cable car in the world, which will have two stations, one at the bottom and one at the top. It will span 6600 meters (6 miles), with 20 support towers. The Cable Car Dominica will provide visitors a distinct view of the Boiling Lake and Roseau, the island’s capital city from a height. The cable car will take 20 minutes to reach Boiling Lake.

Cable car does not eliminate the opportunity for people to hike: PM Skerrit

While talking about the importance of the project, PM Skerrit outlined the concerns that have been raised over the local tour guides, as they will lose jobs or their earnings. While addressing this issue, he stated that the result would be contrary as the tour guides will still be able to do their jobs on the ropeway and will continue with their traditional practice of assisting visitors as it is the main part.

“Having a cable car does not eliminate the opportunity for people to hike,” the Prime Minister stated.

He said this while indicating there will be visitors who will choose to hike rather than opting for a cable car.
