Dubai’s Kite Beach Street Undergoes Expansion to Ease Traffic Congestion

The RTA revealed that the street, previously limited to one lane in each direction, has now been expanded to two lanes in the same direction. The upgrade aims to significantly ease congestion, particularly during peak hours when traffic volumes are at their highest

Dubai, UAE – February 13, 2025 – Residents and visitors heading to Kite Beach Street in Jumeirah can now expect smoother traffic flow after road upgrades were completed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the authority announced on Thursday.

The RTA revealed that the street, previously limited to one lane in each direction, has now been expanded to two lanes in the same direction. The upgrade aims to significantly ease congestion, particularly during peak hours when traffic volumes are at their highest.

Travel Time Cut Drastically

With the expansion, motorists will now experience a drastic reduction in travel time. What previously took 15 minutes to navigate during rush hour can now be completed in just five minutes, according to RTA estimates.

The road enhancements are part of the authority’s broader efforts to improve connectivity and traffic efficiency across Dubai’s major roads.

“The upgrade of Kite Beach Street aligns with our vision to enhance road infrastructure and ensure seamless movement for all commuters. This project is particularly beneficial for beachgoers and local residents who have long faced bottlenecks in the area,” said an RTA spokesperson.

Boost for Tourists and Local Businesses

Kite Beach is one of Dubai’s most popular destinations, attracting thousands of visitors daily for leisure, sports, and dining. The road improvements are expected to boost footfall for local businesses, including cafés, restaurants, and retail outlets along the stretch.

“The traffic congestion used to be frustrating, especially on weekends when many people came to enjoy the beach. Now, the drive is much smoother, and we hope to see more customers coming in,” said a café owner near the beach.

Visitors have also welcomed the move, citing convenience and ease of access. “I used to avoid coming here during busy hours because the traffic was terrible. Now, it’s much better, and I can get to the beach without worrying about long delays,” said a Dubai resident who frequents the area.

Part of a Larger Infrastructure Plan

The road expansion is one of several projects undertaken by the RTA to improve traffic flow across the emirate. Dubai has witnessed rapid urban development, necessitating continuous upgrades to its road network.

Recent projects include the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Road, improvements to intersections, and the introduction of smart traffic management systems.

According to the RTA, further enhancements may be considered for other busy roads based on ongoing traffic studies and commuter feedback.

With the upgraded Kite Beach Street now open, residents and visitors alike can enjoy quicker access to one of Dubai’s most scenic waterfronts without the usual hassle of congestion.
