Cairo, Egypt: Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that the Egyptian state will not spare any effort to provide all means of support to go ahead with the creation of the African Pharmaceutical Agency “AMA” and achieve its objectives in all African countries, noting that Egypt has in recent years witnessed drastic changes in the development of the health system and on the head of the pharmaceutical sector As one of the most important pillars of the health sector.
According to the update, this came in his speech during his participation via “video conferencing” at the African Regional Committee meeting, held today, Wednesday, aimed at strengthening the organizational capacity of the African continent by creating the African Medicine Agency “AMA” (for the Africa we want).
The Minister pointed out the importance of fostering cooperation between African countries to work to address various challenges African countries face in the medicine sector. In order to reach the African continent we want, the AFCA would promote organizational cooperation between continent countries, including localization of drug and vaccine manufacturing. The differences of the African continent, in addition to the unification of laws, legislations and regulatory capabilities of different countries to trade, register and pricing of medicines between countries.
The government of Egypt stated that in his speech, the Minister stressed the importance of strengthening human capacity and the exchange of scientific expertise among member states, ensuring the creation of a strong regulatory system for the African Medicine Agency and ensuring the sustainability of professional development, noting that training, lifting and honing the skills of human staff is important to sustain the Agency and achieving its objectives of serving and supplying them with medicines and vaccines And achieve self-sufficiency from it.
In his speech, the Minister added that promoting transparency and facilitating the exchange of accurate, up-to-date information and accessibility on the regulation and safety of medicines among member states is of paramount importance to facilitate decision-making according to scientific evidence, noting that the African Drug Agency in its role is strengthening strong partnerships between member states, international organizations and the civil society, including Addressing various challenges and consolidating the Agency’s work as a strong, independent organization ensures safety of medicines and vaccines, achieve self-sufficiency and facilitate access to all peoples.
