Egypt, Middle East: Mostafa Madbouly, The Prime Minister of the Cabinet, held a meeting today, 30th July 2023, to follow up on the steps of the project of the creation of the “Soda Ash” production complex and its derivatives to be held in the industrial zone of Al-Ameen.

During the meeting, held at the government headquarters in the new city of Alameen, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly confirmed the importance of this project. He added that the project aims to maximize the added value of Egypt’s natural and mineral resources.

The project’s goal could be achieved by providing the local market needs of soda ash, contributing to the expansion of industries related to this substance, and thus providing employment opportunities.

As per the updates, the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals reviewed the Egyptian Soda Ash project, scheduled to be held in the industrial zone of the new Al-Ameen city. It stated that the project aims to establish a complex for producing soda ash (sodium carbon) and its derivatives by about 600 thousand tons annually.

Furthermore, the project will be serving the local market needs, helping export the product abroad, and thus expanding in Ash soda industries as glass industries and cleaners, said the reports.

As the minister took initial indications of the project, the project consists of main products including heavy ash soda, light ash soda, sodium bicarbonate, super sodium carbonate, and by-products, in addition to the presence of nutrients for the project including limestone, carbon anthracite, sodium chloride and ammonia.

On his part, Shahir Reda, CEO of the Egyptian soda company Ash, presented the project’s position so far, taking steps to select a general contractor through a tender shared by several global companies. He also emphasized managing the necessary funding and approaching the raw material security position to fuel this huge project.

He also outlined different ways to secure the project with the necessary facilities and plans to market the product locally and globally.

The company’s CEO drew on the results of the feasibility studies conducted on this project; it is clear that the selection of the project implementation site in the new Alamin city was done after a survey compared to several areas in several other governorates. 

It proved that the chosen location is the most appropriate, plus that there is a plan to link the project site to a transportation network For rail and electric trains.

Notably, the meeting was held in the presence of Mr Hassan Abdullah, Governor of the Central Bank; Engineer Tariq Al-Mulla, Minister of Oil and Minerals; Engineer Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Public Business; and Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, Major General Mukhtar Abdul Latif. 

A number of other members were also present at the meeting, such as the Chairman of the Arab Manufacturing Authority, Engineer Ibrahim Meki, Chairman of the Petrochemicals Company, Engineer Shahir Raza, CEO of the Egyptian Soda Company Ash, Dean Hisham Ramzi Gad, Military Technical College, and stakeholders officials.
