Four Men Arrested for MacBook Heist; Expat Sentenced for Theft

According to Dubai Police investigations, the electronics company had assigned two staff members to deliver the laptops to another firm in Al Baraha. Upon arrival, the employees were confronted by four men who falsely claimed they were expecting the delivery

Dubai Criminal Court is currently hearing the case against four men accused of stealing 20 MacBook Pro laptops from two employees of an electronics trading company during a delivery in the Al Baraha area.

According to Dubai Police investigations, the electronics company had assigned two staff members to deliver the laptops to another firm in Al Baraha. Upon arrival, the employees were confronted by four men who falsely claimed they were expecting the delivery.

The suspects then allegedly seized the laptops, tied the two employees to chairs, and fled the scene with the stolen goods.

Promptly alerted, Dubai Police officers rushed to the scene, collecting fingerprints and reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects.

Following a targeted manhunt, authorities arrested the first suspect, who cooperated and helped lead police to a second accomplice. The remaining two suspects were subsequently apprehended.

During police questioning, all four men confessed to their roles in the robbery. The stolen laptops, valued at tens of thousands of dirhams, were recovered by police.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had planned to sell the devices at discounted prices to another electronics company.

In a related case, the Dubai Misdemeanours Court sentenced a 35-year-old Asian expatriate to one month in jail followed by deportation for stealing a laptop from a woman he lured through a fake job advertisement on social media.

Court records indicate the victim had responded to the fraudulent job post and was contacted by the accused. He instructed her to bring her laptop for installation of a software program purportedly linked to the position. Upon arrival, the man distracted her, stole the laptop, and fled.

Despite the device being sold, Dubai Police managed to track down the suspect and recover the stolen laptop. The court found the man guilty of theft and ordered his immediate deportation upon completion of his jail sentence.

These incidents highlight ongoing challenges surrounding property theft and fraud in Dubai, prompting law enforcement to maintain vigilance in protecting residents and businesses.

Authorities continue to urge the public to remain cautious, particularly when responding to unsolicited job offers or unusual delivery requests.

Dubai Police have reaffirmed their commitment to swift justice and recovery of stolen property in such cases, stressing that cooperation between law enforcement and the community is vital to combating crime in the city.
