As a result of the maintenance efforts, the metro now boasts an impressive 99.7 percent train availability and punctuality rate, setting a high standard for urban transportation systems.

In addition to the train refurbishments, RTA also undertook rail grinding along both the Red and Green Lines. This process involved the maintenance of a total of 189 kilometres of track.

Rail grinding serves a critical function by removing surface defects from the rails and restoring them to their original specifications.

This procedure not only ensures a smoother and safer ride for passengers but also extends the lifespan of the tracks, minimizing the need for future repairs.

Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Maintenance at RTA’s Rail Agency, emphasized the importance of the preventive maintenance programme in ensuring the long-term success of the Dubai Metro.

“The preventive maintenance programme is a cornerstone of our commitment to operational excellence and sustainability for Dubai Metro.

Through initiatives like rail grinding and the refurbishment of the train fleet, we consistently ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the entire network,” he said.

Al Mutawa also highlighted the wider benefits of the maintenance efforts, including environmental responsibility and cost reductions.

“These measures enhance infrastructure sustainability, reduce costs, and uphold environmental responsibility, aligning with our vision for a carbon-free future,” he added.

“Our goal is not just to meet global standards but to set new benchmarks for urban transportation, providing passengers with a safe, comfortable, and reliable travel experience.”

The metro fleet overhaul and track maintenance are part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to ensure the Dubai Metro remains a world-class public transportation system.

These upgrades not only improve the overall passenger experience but also contribute to Dubai’s sustainability goals by reducing the environmental impact of the metro network.

RTA’s continuous investment in the metro system reflects the growing demand for efficient, eco-friendly, and reliable public transport in the city.

As Dubai continues to expand its urban infrastructure, initiatives like this will play a crucial role in maintaining high service standards while promoting sustainability and operational efficiency.

The completion of this overhaul also aligns with Dubai’s broader ambitions to become a global leader in sustainable urban transport, with RTA’s efforts contributing to the city’s carbon reduction targets and long-term vision for a carbon-free future.
