Sharjah RTA Implements Speed Limit Reduction on Al Ittihad and Al Wahda Roads

The decision, communicated through a social media post on Saturday, May 25, is part of the RTA's ongoing efforts to mitigate road accidents and maintain orderly traffic in the emirate

In a bid to enhance road safety and ensure smooth traffic flow, the Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) in Sharjah has announced a significant reduction in the speed limit on two major thoroughfares, Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road.

Effective immediately, motorists will need to adhere to the new speed limit of 80 km/h, down from the previous 100 km/h.

The decision, communicated through a social media post on Saturday, May 25, is part of the RTA’s ongoing efforts to mitigate road accidents and maintain orderly traffic in the emirate.

To promote safer driving practices, the authority urges all motorists to comply with the revised speed limits.

Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road are vital arteries of Sharjah’s road network, experiencing heavy traffic volumes throughout the day.

By reducing the speed limit, the RTA seeks to minimize the risk of accidents and enhance the overall safety of commuters and pedestrians alike.

This initiative follows similar measures undertaken by other emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to address road safety concerns. Just last week, the Ras Al Khaimah Police announced an increase in the speed limit on Al Watan Road, raising it from 100 km/h to 120 km/h.

While Ras Al Khaimah opted for an increase, Sharjah’s RTA decision reflects a prioritization of caution and safety on its roads.

In light of the adjustment, motorists are advised to exercise vigilance and adhere to the new speed limit signage placed along the affected routes. Additionally, the RTA emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe following distance and obeying all traffic regulations to prevent congestion and ensure efficient traffic flow.

The announcement underscores the collaborative efforts between the RTA and various stakeholders to create a safer and more sustainable transportation infrastructure in Sharjah.

Through proactive measures such as speed limit adjustments, the authorities aim to foster a culture of responsible driving and reduce the incidence of road accidents.

While some motorists may initially perceive the reduction in speed limit as an inconvenience, it ultimately serves to safeguard lives and promote a safer commuting environment.

By prioritizing safety over speed, the RTA demonstrates its commitment to protecting the well-being of road users and enhancing the overall quality of transportation in Sharjah.

As motorists adapt to the new speed limits, the RTA remains vigilant in its monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure compliance and uphold road safety standards.

With collective cooperation and adherence to regulations, Sharjah’s roads can become safer and more conducive to efficient travel for all.
