In a groundbreaking partnership poised to revolutionize urban transportation, US-based electric flying carmaker Archer has joined forces with UAE-based aviation services operator Falcon Aviation.

This collaboration aims to bring the dream of flying cars to reality for UAE residents as soon as 2025.

The ambitious project involves the construction of vertiports, also known as vertical airports, in key locations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. These vertiports will serve as launch pads for Archer’s piloted, four-passenger aircraft known as Midnight.

The innovative design of the Midnight aircraft allows for rapid back-to-back flights, with minimal charge time between trips, promising a seamless and efficient mode of transportation.

The first vertiports will be strategically located at Falcon Heliport at Atlantis the Palm in Dubai and the Marina Mall heliport in Abu Dhabi’s Corniche.

This strategic placement aims to significantly reduce commute times, with estimated flight durations of just 10-30 minutes, compared to the 60-90 minute car journeys.

Aside from the considerable time savings, passengers can expect a safe and comfortable flying experience, with low noise levels and competitive pricing comparable to ground transportation options.

Moreover, operating entirely over water, the flights will offer breathtaking scenic views of the cityscape and the Arabian Sea, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.

Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer, expressed enthusiasm about introducing the Midnight aircraft to the UAE market, highlighting the potential for the region to become a global leader in urban air mobility.

Captain Ramandeep Oberoi, CEO of Falcon Aviation, emphasized his company’s extensive experience in helicopter passenger transport, spanning nearly two decades in the UAE.

Nikhil Goel, chief commercial officer at Archer, noted the rapid progress made in the UAE since the initial announcement, underscoring the commitment to launching midnight flights between Abu Dhabi and Dubai by 2025.

This collaboration comes amidst similar efforts in the region, with US-based Joby Aviation also making strides in the development of all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service.

In February 2024, Joby signed an agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch air taxi services, targeting initial operations as early as 2025.

Joby’s partnership with Skyports further solidifies plans for vertiport sites across Dubai, including prominent locations such as Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, and Downtown.

The convergence of these initiatives reflects a shared vision for sustainable and efficient urban transportation solutions, leveraging cutting-edge technology to address growing mobility challenges in metropolitan areas.

As the UAE prepares to usher in a new era of urban air mobility, the collaboration between Archer and Falcon Aviation stands poised to redefine the future of transportation in the region.

With the countdown to 2025 underway, anticipation is mounting as residents eagerly await the dawn of a new era in aviation, where the skies of Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be open to all, courtesy of electric flying cars.
