A gang of thieves has been detained by Umm Al Quwain Police in the United Arab Emirates, who used to steal new and luxury cars from rental companies in the country.

The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Umm Al Quwain Police, Colonel Saeed Obaid, stated the force was getting many reports from car rental services telling that a person from another emirate had contacted them. The person would then ask for the valuable cars to be delivered to a place in Umm Al Quwain.

As per their statements, the employees used to complete the transactions online without verifying the details of the person that was provided by him or even the identity of the person who contacted them.

The investigations further disclosed that the gang would then disable the vehicle’s trackers after receiving them in Umm Al Quwain. It also told that the gang worked between different emirates.

Police located the gang with the help of the CID and arrested them. CID and the police took all the measures to locate where the gang was hiding and found them very soon after receiving the complaint.

They then admitted to all charges placed against them during the interrogation, as well as they also told that they transferred all the vehicles to a location in a neighbouring emirate. Several luxurious cars were found by police in the captivity of these gang members that they had hidden at a secret place.

The police have given back all the vehicles to their actual owners. After this case, Colonel Obaid has asked car rental businesses in the emirates first to cross-check the identities and documents of the person asking for the vehicle and then hand over the car to him.

The case has now been transferred to public prosecution and is being investigated.
