RTA-Dubai Police officials held meet, discusses traffic safety issues

The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the scope of delivery service via motorbikes as the accident rate of motorbikes hikes 25% from 300 accidents in 2020 to 400 accidents in 2021, as per the official statics. 

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), met today with Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and discussed traffic safety issues to make further strategies. The meeting was conducted at RTA’s Head Office. 

Al Tayer addressing the delegation in the meeting, cited, “Such cooperation contributed to achieving the targets of Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy in terms of reducing traffic accident fatalities, and increasing the ridership of public transport means as well as the individual mobility means for the benefit of citizens, residents and visitors of Dubai”.

He then underscored the significance of RTA in traffic safety, adding it remains committed to implementing Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy as well as zero-fatality vision in order to make Dubai as “best city” at the global level in terms of traffic safety.  

“We are keen to streamline the business of the delivery sector to ensure its growth in an environment that caters to safety and security concerns. We are also keen on improving the traffic safety level of motorbike riders and road users and serving the interests of all stakeholders. The pandemic led to a surge of demand for delivery service companies to meet the public needs of goods and products, which dictated the need to regulate the business of this sector to ensure delivering quality services to customers,” underlined Al Tayer.  

The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the scope of delivery service via motorbikes as the accident rate of motorbikes hikes 25% from 300 accidents in 2020 to 400 accidents in 2021, as per the official statics. 

The meeting also witnessed discussion on the roadmaps and numerous outreach campaigns, with the aim to establish a traffic safety level. Additionally, measures have also been called to improvise training material for motorbike riders operating in this action in cooperation with training institutes.  

A campaign to be aware and educate the motorbikers regarding the risks involved in overspeeding and the negative driving practices was also announced
