UAE: Health Ministry highlights challenges in dealing with tuberculosis

Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) organized a scientific seminar for the workers in the National TB Control Programme and health care providers nationwide on the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day.

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) organized a scientific seminar for the workers in the National TB Control Programme and health care providers nationwide on the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day. In the event, around 350 individuals participated in the event, including doctors, nurses, laboratory workers, public health specialists, and other healthcare providers in the nation.

Salem Al Darmaki – the Advisor to the Minister of Health and Prevention, while Dr. Nada Al-Marzouqi started the event, the Director of the Department of Public Health and Prevention, made a presentation on the National TB Control Programme and its strategies to control TB, and provided some of the analytical statics on the program.

The event also looked at the discussions regarding the challenges in dealing with the disease. 

Al Darmaki stated, “The Ministry has been organizing numerous awareness and communal activities and programs to promote awareness among various segments of society about tuberculosis, and encourage early diagnosis to avoid the disease and its complications.” 

“The ministry is keen to provide the latest efficient preventive and curative health systems at all levels, follow up on effective measures that ensure control and prevention of the disease, and develop preventive strategies and plans to raise and spread societal awareness,” following the above statement, Al Darmaki added. 

Meanwhile, the health ministry is making efforts with its partners to address all the challenges and assure that care and follow-up services for tuberculosis patients are provided free of charge.

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed every year on March 24, with the aim to bring public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease as well. 

According to the official data, in the year 2018, 10 million people fell ill with TB, and around 1.5 million died from the disease, mostly in low and middle-income nations.
