Dubai Customs thwart attempt to smuggle 2968 coffee creams boxes containing amphetamine

This was among the 936 captures made by Dubai Customs during the first four months of 2022.

In another accomplishment, the officials captured 42kg of marijuana from an African tourist at Dubai International Airport. The marijuana was hid inside the sacks of dried hot peppers.

While observing the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Dubai Customs disclosed that they had made 936 drug seizures at all customs ports (sea, land, air and passenger operations) during the first four months of this year, as compared to 558 seizures in the same time in 2021.

Dubai Customs was able to prevent any attempts to smuggle narcotic substances, including captagon, tramadol tablets, heroin, opium, marijuana, hemp seeds, crystal meth and other narcotics.

Passenger Operations Department has made over 222 captures between January and April 2022 as compared to 198 in the same period in 2021.

The Inland Customs Centers Management has made 501 seizures compared to 32 in 2021, whereas Air Cargo Centers Management has made 207 captures compared to 325 in the same period last year.

On the other hand, the Sea Customs Centers Management made six seizures over three during the same period in 2021.

The Director-General of Dubai Customs and CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, said, “Protecting the community is a significant strategic goal in Dubai Customs and its five-year plan, and we are offering this role a great importance in light of the increasing risks, and as part of our dedication to our national duty.”

The early warning technology represented by the Smart Risk Engine allows for determining all suspicious shipments in advance.

The customs centres are given the recent inspection devices, including the modern container inspection system, the latest integrated worldwide system for scanning and inspecting containers and moving trucks.

It can scan 160 trucks every hour. Siyaj’s programme, the border security initiative, is continuously updated using the latest AI technologies.
