COVID-19: UAE reports 998 new cases on Friday, lowest since June 8

The United Arab Emirates reported about 998 cases of coronavirus pandemic on Friday, August 5, which is the lowest number of daily cases reported since June 8.

An additional covid tests of 244,993 patients were carried out in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of infections since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020 has reached 996,775.

Two deaths related to COVID-19 were also reported, taking the total number of deaths to 2,337.

The recovery tally has reached 975,590 with 989 more recoveries.

The number of active cases in the UAE now stands at 18,848. Over 178 million PCR tests have been performed since the beginning of the pandemic.

Daily cases have reduced steadily in the past month and in this month, after a rise of infections in late June and early July this year.

The number of cases topped 1800 on July 3, Wednesday, having dropped below 200 during early May, but now stays at fewer than 1500 per day.

In July, it was disclosed that some pharmacies in Abu Dhabi are now allowed to give COVID-19 vaccines and PCR tests.

The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi stated that the Sinopharm vaccine would be available free of charge to those who are eligible and above the age of 18.

PCR tests will also be offered at pharmacies for Dh40 ($10.9) under a programme which was executed last week. This is a similar cost as paid at testing centres.

Covid-19 has been gradually decreasing all over the world, and very few deaths have been reported since the start of this year from every region of the globe as most people are now vaccinated with at least two shots of the COVID vaccine.
