Sharjah Municipality Opens Applications for Late-Night Business Permits During Ramadan

The permits, issued under the 'Control and Inspection' service on the municipality's website, allow establishments to continue operations beyond regular hours during the fasting month

Sharjah, UAE – Businesses in Sharjah seeking to operate past midnight during the holy month of Ramadan can now apply for special permits, the Sharjah Municipality announced on Thursday.

The permits, issued under the ‘Control and Inspection’ service on the municipality’s website, allow establishments to continue operations beyond regular hours during the fasting month.

The initiative is designed to accommodate the unique demands of Ramadan, when commercial activities often extend into the early morning hours due to the shift in daily routines.

Many businesses, particularly in the food and retail sectors, experience increased footfall after Iftar and Suhoor, making extended operating hours a necessity for both service providers and customers.

However, the municipality clarified that construction contracting companies are not eligible for this permit. The restriction aims to minimize noise disturbances and maintain a peaceful environment for residents during nighttime hours.

Food Establishments to Benefit from Special Permits

In a separate announcement, the authority revealed that eateries can now apply for permits allowing them to prepare food during daylight hours throughout Ramadan.

This change is significant as it accommodates the needs of restaurants and catering businesses serving Iftar meals.

Two distinct types of permits are available for food establishments, with the applicable fees varying based on the type of operation.

Additionally, eateries will be allowed to display food outside their establishments before Iftar, enabling customers to make purchases conveniently as they prepare for the evening meal.

Ramadan to Begin on March 1

According to the latest astronomical calculations, Ramadan is anticipated to commence on Saturday, March 1, and will span the full 30 days.

The Islamic holy month is marked by fasting from dawn until sunset, with increased spiritual activities and community gatherings taking place throughout the period.

As businesses prepare for the surge in nighttime activity, the municipality’s permit system aims to ensure orderly and regulated operations across the city.

Establishments interested in obtaining late-night permits are encouraged to submit their applications through the official website at the earliest opportunity to avoid delays.

The decision to allow extended business hours aligns with Sharjah’s broader efforts to support economic activity while maintaining harmony within residential areas.

By implementing a structured permitting process, the municipality seeks to balance the interests of business owners, customers, and the wider community during the sacred month.

For the latest updates on Ramadan-related regulations and business operations, residents and entrepreneurs can stay informed through official municipal channels and local news platforms.
