RTA Launches Dh798-Million Al Nahyan Street Project to Ease Traffic Congestion in Dubai

The large-scale infrastructure project will stretch from the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, pass through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and extend all the way to Emirates Road

In a significant push to enhance traffic infrastructure and meet the demands of ongoing urban development, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a Dh798-million contract for the Al Nahyan Street Development Project.

The initiative is focused on improving traffic flow in areas surrounding Al Qudra Road, a key artery in the city’s expanding road network.

The large-scale infrastructure project will stretch from the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, pass through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and extend all the way to Emirates Road.

The development is poised to become a major facilitator of traffic movement and future urban growth in Dubai’s outer residential and commercial zones.

At the core of the project is the enhancement of key intersections along Al Qudra Road. According to RTA, the upgrades will include the construction of several new bridges totaling 2.7 kilometers in length and the expansion of 11.6 kilometers of existing roadways.

These enhancements are expected to significantly boost street capacity, with the new infrastructure accommodating up to 19,200 vehicles per hour.

RTA officials emphasized that the project aligns with Dubai’s broader urban development strategy and aims to support the city’s rapid population growth and real estate expansion.

The development also reflects RTA’s commitment to improving mobility and reducing congestion in fast-growing communities.

“This strategic project will serve the residential and commercial areas in the vicinity of Al Qudra Road, and provide smooth connectivity to major highways such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road,” said an RTA spokesperson.

“It is a vital step in supporting Dubai’s vision for smart and sustainable urban planning.”

The Al Nahyan Street Development Project is also expected to improve access to nearby tourist and recreational areas, while ensuring safer and more efficient travel for residents and commuters.

In recent years, communities around Al Qudra Road have experienced significant growth, necessitating comprehensive infrastructure upgrades to meet rising demand.

Traffic experts believe that once completed, the project will not only alleviate bottlenecks but also reduce travel time during peak hours and improve the overall driving experience.

It will also play a crucial role in connecting newer residential developments with established business and lifestyle hubs across the city.

The awarding of this contract adds to a series of ongoing infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the RTA as part of its long-term roadmap to future-proof Dubai’s transport ecosystem.

With the emirate aiming to accommodate millions more in the coming decades, such projects are essential in ensuring that the road network remains efficient, resilient, and prepared for sustained growth.

Construction work on the Al Nahyan Street Development Project is set to begin in the coming months, with completion expected in phases over the next few years.
