St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew assures to provide fair wages to workers

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis – Dr Terrance Drew, hosted a zonal time hall meeting. The meeting was held at Newtown Community at 7:30 pm on April 26. The meeting addressed the citizens and residents of Constituency 1 and 8. Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley accompanied the Prime Minister during the meeting.

One of the major issues highlighted by Prime Minister Drew was the ‘minimum wages’ of the workers of St Kitts and Nevis. He stated that the government has been making sure that justified wages are provided to the workers. Additionally, he emphasised that satisfactory wages will help the citizens of the country to purchase basic things for themselves and their families.

Furthermore, PM Drew noted that all the workers must be given fairer and decent wages, helping them in improving their lives. He also mentioned that his government will always work for the people of the country as diligent and hardworking workers are responsible for the growth and development of the nation.

In this regard, he was quoted saying, “A country where people don’t work is a country that cannot grow, that cannot advance. So at the same time, we are seeking to advance the wages in terms of, increase we also have to advance the idea to be diligent workers, productive workers and hard workers.”

Some of the other issues addressed by the Prime Minister were Development Bank and bank offers and loans provided to small business owners. During the address, he also mentioned that the government has been planning to reduce interest on student loans. Dr Drew also mentioned that his administration would be taking significant steps regarding the interest on existing student loans.

He said, “So if you have a student loan now at about 9 percent, our aim is to bring that student loan down to lessen the strain on students.”

Besides this, Prime Minister Drew also praised Deputy Prime Minister Hanley for his constant hard work for the betterment of his constituency and its people. PM Drew asserted, “Minister Geoffrey Hanley has been working tirelessly hard to deliver so much effort, and St Kitts and Nevis is really proud to have him as the representative.”
