Dubai Police has honoured 11-year-old girl Jannatul Afia Mohammed for her truthfulness and for being a responsible resident of the UAE.

As per a post by Dubai Police on their official Facebook handle, the young Emirati student found a gold chain in the community where she resides. She immediately informed her father, who gave it to the Qusais Police station.

Colonel Saeed Salem Al-Madhani, the Deputy Director of the Center, applauded her efforts and measures she took to give back the gold chain and called on other community members to take inspiration from her.

Mr Mohammed Jashimuddin, her father, expressed his happiness that Dubai Police had honoured his daughter while emphasising that he had only done his duty by handing over the chain that his daughter found.

The ceremony to praise and honour Jannatul was held at Cambridge International School in Dubai, where she is currently studying, in the presence of other police officers and staff of the school.

This is not the only time that Dubai Police have honoured students for their purity and honesty. This year, in March, police officers surprised a student, Azam Khalid Dhif Allah, by visiting him at his school to praise his integrity after he handed over a wallet found around the area of Lulu village.

The Dubai Police has made it routine to recognise residents who hand over lost valuables or cash for their honesty. This step is being taken under their initiative of “We reach you to thank you”, which strives to honour those working with the police to keep the city a secure place. Several such incidents have taken place this year.

Last week also, the police honoured an ex-pat, Tariq Mahmood Khalid Mahmood, after returning a bag holding Dh1 million. He had discovered the bag in his building lift in Al Barsha.
