India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called Jaffna Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka, inaugurated on Saturday under a significant initiative reflecting the close relationships between India and Sri Lanka.

As per the recent updates, the foundation stone of the Jaffna Cultural Centre was laid by Prime Minister Modi in 2015 and shared a glimpse from the special visit. In addition, PM Modi stated that “The Jaffna Cultural Centre is a signifying initiative launched between India and Sri Lanka for strengthening the bilateral relationship.”

On his part, PM Modi tweeted, “The initiative will benefit several people.” He specifically mentioned the efforts of the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, making the initiative programme even more special while meeting the President during the event.

“My visit to Jaffna in 2015 was very special, and I will never forget the occasion where I had the occasion to lay the foundation stone for the Jaffna Cultural Centre,” the Prime Minister said. As per the reports, PM Modi also uploaded a number of photographs from his visit on his official Twitter handle.

Furthermore, “The iconic Jaffna Cultural Centre was completely dedicated to the people in the gracious presence of President today, Ranil Wickremesinghe, along with Minister Murugan and High Commissioner and Ministers Vidura Wickramanayake, Kadar Masthan, Douglas, who MPs and dignitaries from all walks of life accompanied.” Indian Embassy to Sri Lanka tweeted.

Moreover, the government grants provided by India helped construct the Jaffna Cultural Centre dedicated to the Sri Lankan people on Saturday. On his part, L Murugan, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, stated that during the opening ceremony, Ministry announced financial assistance on the special scheme for around 100 students of the University of Jaffna, particularly those who belong to economically backward families.

Additionally, President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed immense gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Modi and acknowledged the Jaffna Project Centre as a “Major Project” between neighbour countries.

The reports have stated that the iconic Jaffna Cultural Centre has been constructed next to the Jaffna Public Library and will be recognized as the tallest building in the town. It is a significant example of developing ties between India and Sri Lanka, said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during a press release.

Notably, the project is established to expand the cultural infrastructure for the Northern Province residents, as per the press release. The Culture Centre has multiple facilities, including a museum of two floors and an advanced theatre-style auditorium with over 600 people. It also has an 11-story learning tower.
