These carpets, created by the esteemed Ghanbarinia Heritage Carpets, represent centuries of tradition, culture, and storytelling, making them more than just decorative pieces—they are cultural relics woven with history.

Ghanbarinia Heritage Carpets, a brand founded in 1841, is preparing to open its first branch in Ras Al Khaimah, following an exhibition at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Afshin Ghanbarinia, the vice-chairman of the company, explained the significance of these carpets, noting that each knot and motif carries a tale passed down through generations, representing the richness of Persian art and culture.

“These carpets are woven histories. Each knot and motif tells stories passed down through generations, representing Persian artistry and culture,” Dr. Ghanbarinia told Khaleej Times.

The collection features intricate designs, many influenced by the Persian Safavid dynasty, which thrived from 1501 to 1736.

Ghanbarinia described some of the iconic motifs, such as the Shahabasi flower, symbolizing rebirth, and the central medallion and Eslim, which represent life, balance, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

These symbols are woven into the fabric of the carpets, turning each piece into a tapestry of deep cultural significance.

“Carpets are not just decorative pieces. They’re stories interwoven with heritage, making them pieces of history that speak to the soul,” he emphasized.

The Ghanbarinia brand has operated in 31 countries, with a long-standing presence in the UAE for over 40 years.

The collection, which spans centuries of craftsmanship, includes not only 17th-century masterpieces but also modern designs, offering a unique blend of ancient tradition and contemporary artistry.

Each carpet is made from natural fibers and dyed using plant-based colors, reflecting a commitment to sustainable and ethical craftsmanship that aligns with the UAE’s cultural preservation goals.

Walter Hahn, a devoted collector of Persian carpets for over four decades, shared his admiration for a carpet from the late 1800s. “The detail is mesmerising,” he said, noting the carpet’s intricate design, with up to a million knots per square meter.

This level of precision, Hahn explained, is a testament to the skill and dedication of the carpet makers.

“The colours are vibrant yet balanced, each hue placed to bring the story to life. Persian carpets aren’t just items; they are powerful works of art with cultural and spiritual meanings in every line and motif,” Hahn underscored.

Visitors to the new Ras Al Khaimah branch will have the opportunity to see these magnificent carpets up close, learning about the rich history and craftsmanship behind each piece.

With their deep cultural significance and unparalleled artistry, these carpets continue to be cherished symbols of a lasting artistic legacy.
