Castries: Ernest Hilaire, the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, extended his congratulations on St. Cecilia’s Day. St Cecilia’s Day is celebrated with great pomp and shows in all Caribbean countries, including Saint Lucia, on 22nd November.
While congratulating the citizens, Deputy PM took to his social media and wrote, “Happy St. Cecil’a’ day to all our local musicians; let us continue to celebrate our culture and heritage through our musical expression”.
Soon after the social media post of Dy. PM social media flooded with congratulatory messages. Some social media users also commented on the Dy. PM’s post as A.G Simpson and Marcia Stange wrote “Thank you” in the comment section of the Post of Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire.
It is worth mentioning that St. Cecilia’s Day is celebrated to remember the early Christian martyr.
It is believed that she vowed to be a virgin throughout her life. It is also believed that her prosecutors tried to suffocate her using the toxic oven fumes. But instead of choking, she started to sing.
Later, the prosecutor tried to kill her by beheading them, but they again failed to kill her. She died three later in her home.
This act of St. Cecilia brought her the laurel of the great patron of Music.
Many musical concerts were organised in the country to pay tribute to St. Cecilia. These musical concerts were organised by many governments as well as non-government organisations.
Ministry of Tourism also congratulated the citizens of this day and mentioned on their social media page, “Happy St. Cecilia’s Day to all our local musicians, in celebration of our heritage and culture through the passion of music”.
In a musical concern many singer and musical groups gave impressive performancs on this specail day.
Another social media page mentions the quote from St. Cecilia as “while with our heart and tongues, we try with song to praise god twice. we ask dear to help us be united close with Christ!”.
Netizens, remembering St. Cecilia, posted the congratulatory message in social media groups. Citizens also gave suggestions to the government to promote the music culture of Saint Lucia.
Margaret Rambally, addressing the government, wrote on social media that “The government need to allocate money for this occasion, because this is one of our local cultures, so it can be showcased in a grand way”.
